nesting clinker brick
Innovative – ecological – sustainable
An ideal combination of ecology and economy
Natural habitats for mice, swifts, bats and other creatures are becoming increasingly limited in size, especially in urban areas. To counteract this, Hagemeister has developed a range of nesting clinker bricks to serve as a substitute habitat for various bat and bird species. These special shaped bricks enable breeding and nesting opportunities to be preserved during renovation work and created during new building construction. The innovative eco clinker brick is now available in six different versions – an individual solution for every type of resident.
The idea and concept for the nesting clinker brick come directly from the formed clinker brick manufacturing of our production colleague Hubert Rietmann. This is where professional brick know-how meets ecological and private interest. Working in close collaboration with experts from nature conservation and science, he developed these modules that can be built into a house wall – with the Hagemeister family’s full support of course. The substitute habitat is suitable for bird species such as swifts, house sparrows, black redstarts, house martins and swallows, as well as for many mouse species. Bat species, including the pipistrelle bat, the serotine bat and the common and grey long-eared bat also find a home here.
The specially shaped bricks can be aesthetically adapted to match any Hagemeister clinker brick façade in terms of colour, structure, format and bond. At the same time, they are designed and manufactured in way that is appropriate for the species so as to meet the needs of the façade’s animal inhabitants and that, above all, complies with the regions’ official requirements. Different species of birds also need specific entry holes and interior shapes. For this reason, the company expanded its range and now has six versions of the eco clinker brick ready. These differ for example in terms of installation depth, the size of the entry opening, the interior dimensions or the approach height.
The eco clinker brick can be installed in new masonry or retrospectively in an existing wall – aesthetically perfectly adapted to the façade and visually very understated. The special shaped clinker brick is a system integrated into the masonry and closed in the facing wall. A more ideal solution than the pre-hung bird and bat nesting boxes that are available on the market. The development of this innovative nesting clinker brick gives every building owner and planner the opportunity to promote conservation and to use the ideal substitute habitat while meeting legal requirements. The individual systems are regularly optimised in close collaboration with nature conservation associations, ornithologists and bat researchers.
Hagemeister holds a patent for all systems.
